Okay. With hindsight, we admit that Humboldt Redwoods State Park was a bit of a haul for a day trip. But everybody had a great time. Eli napped a good chunk of the way there and we hung out long enough to hit nightfall and his bedtime before turning homeward, so he slept almost all the way back too. It was a classic mini road trip complete with stories, snorts of laughter, passing the candy corn, and stopping to poke around touristy gift shops.
In the late afternoon, the sun coming through the trees at a golden slant, we stopped just to enjoy the forest. We stretched out on the thick carpet of redwood needles and looked up at the gently swaying branches far, far above.
We found a trail through the trees and it led to a small creek. Eli and I waded in to enjoy the cool water and chase a frog or two.
Lovely, peaceful day with my three best guys.
