A few weeks ago Eli had a runny nose, so I kept him at home to keep him from sharing possible cold germs with his tot buddies. After a while, it felt like we were getting to the end of fun things to do at home and thus headed off to Target. (As long as Eli isn't coughing or sneezing, he isn't spreading germs just being out. I just don't let him touch things and I keep him in his stroller rather than putting him in a cart.) We soon hit on something new and fun...pumpkin counting!
At Target I found an inexpensive box of plastic pumpkins meant for hiding just like an Easter egg hunt. When we got home, I took out the candy and put Eli in his high chair for a few minutes (so he couldn't peek) while I hid the pumpkins in the living room. Then I got him down and handed him a trick-or-treat bag. He caught onto the game immediately and then had fun helping me count the pumpkins to be sure he got them all. (Since we've mostly been working on the numbers one to ten, I only hide that many right now.)
Eli's cold ended up being a false alarm, but we've had a great time counting pumpkins once or twice a day ever since.
What a neat idea however I'm not the least surprised that you would think of a "pumpkin hunt". What a super little guy to play with, love you Eli!!!
