I'm working on a photo album for Eli about his California years. I want to collect photos of the people here who are dear to us but also capture our favorite haunts. One of the latter is "Milan's Stick Beach."
My friend Suruchi and her son, Milan, showed us this tiny beach on the bay. I don't know if it has an official name, but we nicknamed it in honor of Eli's buddy (who has now moved to Texas) as well as for the wonderful array of exciting sticks to be found there...
Milan's Stick Beach is near the railroad tracks (just across the street from Railroad Park in Hercules), so part of the fun is getting to wave to the Amtrak cars whizzing past. There are also high speed ferries zipping between San Francisco and Vallejo, far out on the sparkling water. But mostly it is nice to feel the warm sun, listen to the waves lapping, and look for pretty pebbles. Or exciting sticks.
(We miss you, Suruchi and Milan!)
