One of the joys of parenting is watching your child suddenly take off, embracing a new adventure. Recently Eli was invited to a birthday party at an indoor climbing facility. I wasn't sure how it would go, but there was the promise of friends, birthday cake, and an indoor play structure. Off we went.
If truth be told, Eli drifted off in the car and was carried into the party like a slumbering sack of potatoes. But soon after he woke up, we fitted him with one of the climbing harnesses and explained the possibilities. With barely a pause, off he trotted to one of the walls and got buckled to the safety rope. A minute later my wee boy is cheerfully waving from the ceiling!
He must have liked it, because he did it over and over.
THAT'S MY BOY!!!
One Mama's Two Cents:
I wouldn't have thought to take Eli to a climbing facility if it wasn't for the birthday party; it seems like such a "big kid" activity. But Eli loved it. Such a fantastic conficence-builder too! We're now mulling over a big family outing to the climbing center. There aren't tons of activities that four year-old Eli and his teenaged cousins can all enjoy, but I think this one fits the bill.
