This morning just before we headed off to school, I saw movement in the yard through the windows of the back doors. There was a small brown rabbit hopping around on the patio but also a full-grown doe munching grass.
By the time we had our shoes on and were ready to head out, she had wandered off into the woods.
At present, I'm too busy working on a book manuscript to spend time writing elaborate blog posts. Photos of the deer would make a nice break in someone's day as they stop by JourneyLeaf for a few moments, I thought. As I was working on this post, I glanced out my writing room window just in time to see a bushy-tailed red fox cross the yard -- with a brown bunny in his mouth. For a moment I stood at the window transfixed. Then I lunged for my camera, but he or she vanished into the forest before I had a chance to snap a shot. I do, however, have some backyard photos of the rabbits from last month to share...
I don't know if this little guy was Mr. Fox's lunch, but it gave me pause anyway. I know, though, that foxes need food to survive and it is all a part of the great Circle of Life. I felt honored today to be a witness. Godspeed, small rabbit.
