I'm watching rain fall across the landscape outside my writing room window. Such a cool, peaceful morning. The view from my desk...
It made me think of a few images from this summer. Last month we drove past the marshes in coastal Georgia during a squall. There wasn't much wind. Instead, the wetness just turned the world greener and more quiet.
In the car, we felt like we were traveling in a rain-drenched bubble...
Before long, the world beyond the glass was so blurred that I suddenly had the feeling that half-seen landscape could be anywhere -- Irish misty moor, English wold, highland meadow -- or even just an abstract painting by some starving artist in a New York apartment wishing for a little green earth.
As for other dreamy landscapes from other summer days, my friend Heidi gave me a lovely quilt that is all white. Wthout color or cloth patterns, the stitching takes on a wonderful texture. It looks like a soft, pleasant place to curl up and read a book on a rainy day.
But that quilt, like the rain-smeared car window, stirred my imagination. Can you picture yourself on a tiny horse riding across the hill below?
I hope if it is rainy in your corner of the world today that you can find a dreamy piece of landscape to enjoy.
