Two bouts of frozen precipitation in two weeks! Georgia definitely isn't having a mild winter. Snow is always nicer, but even sleet and freezing rain offer pleasures. The world looks different and exciting dressed up for winter...
This afternoon the rain pretty much froze on contact, creating many icicles.
The coating of ice is growing ominously thicker. It makes the tree branches and the power lines heavier and heavier until they can no longer handle their own weight. To make matters worse, there have been gusts of wind today that make the trees creak and groan. We have done what we could to prepare for a winter power outage, but it will be chilly.
So we decided we'd get outside and enjoy ourselves while we still had a warm indoors for a retreat. Sled + tow rope + four wheeler + sleet-coated field = great fun.
After a while, Eli decided keeping his eye sealed shut was the best defense against the stinging sleet. Until we got him some goggles, he grinned and laughed his way across the field with his eyes closed while snuggling with Cousin Margaret.
Then taking to our favorite sledding hill...
Remember this little grade school tongue-twister poem?
"Whether the weather is hot
Or whether the weather is cold
We'll weather the weather
Whatever the weather
Whether we like it or not"
Thanks to Uncle Eric coming to get us in his Jeep with chains on the tires, sledding, and hot cocoa, we'll weather the weather with grins.
