Last week the theme for Camp Rainbow was "Wet and Wild," which was water creatures and wetland habitats. I had a bad cold and laryngitis, but we slogged through. We got some children's picture books about wetlands and the rain cycle from the library then took a walk one morning to see how a nearby pond connected with the creek near our house. It had rained the night before, so we talked about where the water goes and how that affects animals and people.
Another mom in Camp Rainbow took the lead and hosted a great fun day at their house near a lake. She read the kids a wonderful picture book called The Raft by Jim LaMarche that looks at life along a river.
She gave the kids big lumps of clay so they could make river animals
(or anything else they'd like).
She made the kids paint-filled water balloons to toss at a big sheet of white foam core board that had tacks through the back to help with popping.
Those water balloons ended up getting thrown elsewhere too...
There was drawing and painting time...
Most of all, there was swim time. Camp Rainbow folks met three times last week to swim in two different lakes.
Easy, lazy summer days...
Being sick with a five year-old to take care of is a little tough over the summer. So grateful for mamas and kids to hang out with!
