Yesterday afternoon while Eli was in school, I made a batch of my great great grandmother's teacakes.
"I added cherry extract to them and cut them into heart shapes for you and some buddies to decorate," I told Eli.
"Mama, that sounds like the really true opposite of yucky!" he exclaimed.
After everybody went home, Eli finished up his valentines for school (with a little help from Mama and Papa)
I found a photo valentine idea on Pinterest that Eli was eager to try.
The original used lollypops, but our school discourages too much sugar and thus we went with a pencil. The effect worked almost just as well. I should have had Eli tilt his fist just a teeny bit more, but we're happy with the results! (Click HERE for the blog where I got the idea. Thank you, Brassy Apple blog!)
I printed our valentines at Walgreen's. Their software allows you to add borders to a photo, so I added a holiday border for a little extra touch.
Valentine's Day for adults is rather nice now that I'm married. But I still think it is best as a kiddo holiday. Grown-up romance is lovely woven into everyday life all year long while once a year I love jumping feet-first into pink, cinnamon red hot, lacy, sugary, cherry, paper-cut-out fun!
